Bountiful weekend

Well we are just wrapping up our long weekend here in NZ and what a busy weekend it was - i was sick and my little man got sick for the first time with earache, what an experience that was! Poor little man was pretty unhappy but bounced back pretty quickly and was himself again today, as was i. That gave me and the better half some good time together to do some harvesting and preserving from the garden.

It was a pretty good haul too, plums, blackberries, strawberries, zucchini, marrows, sage, calendula flowers for drying, coriander and over 5kg of heirloom tomatoes! The herbs are already drying in baskets, a bag of marrows and zucchini have been put aside to take into work and i'm thinking of stewing up some plums.

Don't be fooled these tomatoes may not be very pretty but they are packed with flavour. Much better than the plain red variety. Because we had so many of these we thought we would try making some tomato relish, we haven't made it before so we thought we would start with a small batch.

I may have misread the recipe, it filled my biggest pot!

I expected to be making 2-3 jars!

But it made 7 jars plus

i still have half a pot left, luckily it tastes pretty good, anyone what to try some tomato relish? lol
Tomorrow begins my first class for the whole food kitchen, i'm so excited to learn some new and wholesome recipes. I'll make sure to share my progress with you all. I hope you had a great weekend. Take care people.

  1. Being that it's the middle of winter here in the US, I'm totally jealous of your beautiful harvest. Enjoy!
